There are a number of factors that contribute to a good or bad golf slice. To improve your golf acumen, you may first need to repair your golf slice. A bad slice could make you go over par on just one hole which could mean the difference between a good game and one that’s not so spectacular. First, you need to determine the cause of your slice. A slice happens primarily because your club is open when it hits the ball. This is in relation to the path of the club’s head. A wayward left hand can also be a contributing factor in the slice. If the back of your left hand is aligned to the right of the ball, a slice can occur because the face of the club is open. The back of your hand must face the target when as the ball is hit in order to correct a wayward left hand. At the very least, you should feel it facing the ball, Your grip must be strong. Practice without a club to square your left hand. Stand keeping your right arm at your side. Rotate your left forearm, cocking your wrist while swinging back. A weak grip will also cause a slice if your hands are turned too far left. If you are still slicing while the back of your left hand is squared, your grip will be weak. If so, turn your hands to the right of the club, keeping a strong position. A strong grip makes it easy to turn your left hand over. Now you don’t have far to get the club square. If you’re attempting to square your left hand and not succeeding, then you can assume there is something wrong with your swing instead of your grip. If the plain in your swing is too steep, you will also slice the ball. Many golfers have this problem. If the swing is
too steep, it is harder for your hands to turn over and square the club as it hits the ball. Sometimes hard mats cause you to hit in a downward motion for a solid hit, causing a slice. Swinging the club straight up and down will make you reverse rotate and block the open face as it hits the ball. To correct this, swing the club around your body more like a baseball type swing. A shoulder tilt can also cause a golf ball slice. Though similar to an upright swing issue, the should tilt problem happens because your body is tilting. Your body is not turning properly. To correct this problem, swing your arms around your body. Put your arms across your chest, turning your shoulders back and through. Practice this maneuver without the club in your hands. Then practice with the club. Suppose your swing is fairly good, but you are still slicing the ball. It could be because you’re rotating the club face a bit as you move the club away from the golf ball. You’re opening the face too far which results in giving you much farther to square the ball as it is hit. You must be certain the club is square with a back swing. Do not rotate the club open. The optimum point to check your swing is at two o’clock. The club face must be square. A problem with your swing will cause a problem slicing the ball. Determine what is causing you to slice the ball, practice your swing until you get it right. The swing is made up of many components. Figure out where your problem is. If each part is not right, you could end up slicing the ball. If you practice the swing correctly, it will improve it and help you to eliminate slicing the ball.
