Horizon Treadmill Review - Are Horizon Fitness Treadmills a Good Buy For You?
Considering a Horizon treadmill? Horizon fitness treadmills aren't as well known as some other mainstream brands like Proform or Nordic Track. However they do offer several high value, affordable options and may be worth considering.
Horizon treadmills are produced by Johnson - the 4th largest maker of fitness equipment in North America. They've been making fitness equipment for over 20 years and also produce the Vision, Johnson and Matrix brand names.
Horizon makes treadmills in the budget to mid-priced range and has a lot of models to choose from. Here's a quick review of the strengths and weaknesses of the brand to help you decide if a Horizon treadmill is right for you.
Strengths:
1) Bargain Prices - One thing that stands out about the Horizon units is that they tend to be on the low-priced side considering what you get.
Many units are priced around $1000 and under. And yet most are built much better than your standard $600 department store unit.
Perhaps this is because Horizon isn't as well known as other brands. Maybe it's because these treadmills tend to have less 'bells and whistles' than other brands. In any case, if you're looking for a bargain treadmill that still offers good value in terms of construction, Horizon is a great option.
2) Solid, Stable Feel - I recently tried out several new Horizon models and found they gave a solid, stable feel, even when you pick up the pace. The decks are strong and shake-free. While it's not a health club feel, it's still pretty strong.
3) Bright, Easy-To-Read Consoles with iPod Docks and Speakers - Most Horizon consoles have attractive, bright, easy-to-read consoles - which is great if lighting in your workout area is limited.
You can get built in fans and several of the new models also come with an mp3/iPod hookups and built in speakers. You can plug in your iPod or Mp3 and listen to your favorite music while you workout. Support a Healthy Nervous System With Inositol
Inositol is a member of the vitamin B complex family, being referred to as vitamin B8, but is not strictly a vitamin because it is biosynthesized in your body. Vitamins are essential substances that are not manufactured by your natural biochemistry, and must be taken in your diet. However, to all intents and purposes it works like a member of the vitamin B family.
The main function of myo-inositol (the commonest isomer of inositol) is in the health of cell membranes, particularly those that comprise the marrow, eyes, intestines and the brain. Without proper regulation of the cell membrane, the cell cannot function effectively. Some of its effects include healthy hair and controlling estrogen levels. It is also believed to help to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood.
A deficiency will result in hair loss, eczema, increased blood cholesterol levels and eye abnormalities. You might also suffer constipation, although this is not as serious a condition as those preceding. It is present at highest levels in the heart and brain, which indicates where it is mostly used, although it also helps the liver to break down fats and enables the nerves and muscles to operate as they should.
Those that are depressed are frequently found to have low inositol levels in their spinal fluid, so it is believed to play a part in that condition. It is known that the substance takes part in the function of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is known to play a part in depression, and initial signs are that its use in the treatment of depression could be effective. Neurotransmitters are responsible for passing messages across the gap (synapses) between nerve cells, their messages being decoded by the neuroreceptors. A healthy nervous system depends on healthy neurotransmitters.
For these reasons, inositol has also been tried on other conditions of the nervous system. These include bipolar disorder, bulimia, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and attention deficit disorder. So far, results have been inconclusive as to its effectiveness, but it is early days yet and field tests are continuing.
A test carried out in Beersheva, Israel, in 1997, found that treatment with inositol produced significant improvement in the depression of 28 patients after four weeks on the Hamilton Depression Scale1, and 21 patients tested with panic disorder (with and without agoraphobia) showed significant improvements in their condition, including agoraphobia. Results on 13 patients with obsessive compulsive disorder also showed significant improvement. These were all double-blind tests.
However, not all tests have been so conclusive, and a study on 42 people with sever depression who did not respond to conventional antidepressant, also failed to respond when inositol was added to their medication.2 Results are therefore not conclusive.
Four hundred people took part in a double-blind test that indicated a possible improvement in the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome when treated with inositol 3,4 and another that inositol treatment on patients taking lithium could help reduce the symptoms of psoriasis, a skin condition believed to be caused by a reaction of the immune system and nerves.5
The supplement has also been found to be just as effective as Luvox (fluvoxamine – similar to Prozac) after four weeks treatment. Although these results are good, they are inconclusive, and more data is need before any indisputable conclusions can be drawn. However, treatment with inositol might be worth considering if conventional treatment for these conditions has been unsuccessful.
The most common natural form of inositol is myo-inositol, an isomer of cyclohehexanehexol, a carbocyclic polyol that form the structural basis for secondary messengers in the cells of eukaryotes.
A secondary messenger system is one whereby a signaling molecule is released in response to a signal from a primary messenger such as a neuroreceptor, which then activates certain intracellular proteins known as effector proteins that exert a response from the cell. An example is cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) that is a secondary messenger that activates protein kinases and allows them to phosphorylated proteins.
Eukaryotes are organisms that contain cells composed of complex components contained within a cellular membrane, and that also contain a nucleus. Examples are fungi, plants and all animals. Examples of non eukaryotes include the bacteria family.
It is frequently recommended that inositol is most effective when taken with an equal amount of choline, although this might be due to the fact that when inositol deficiency is detected, choline is also frequently deficient. Both are vitamin B family like, and both are lipotropic, in that they aid the breakdown of fats in the body. It is not clear whether this is true or not, but taking both would certainly not harm you, and might be of great benefit.
Inositol is not essential, because it can be obtained from beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains, cantaloupe, brewer’s yeast, liver and vegetables. Bacteria in the gut also act on the phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate) contained in citrus fruits to form inositol.
However, be careful if you drink a lot of coffee. It destroys inositol, and if you are taking the supplement medicinally, steer clear of coffee during your period of treatment because it will lose its effect. Excessive coffee drinking can also result in a general depletion of inositol from your diet, and hence a deficiency. In such a case you are advised to take a supplement, preferably along with choline that might also be deficient.
Although there have been no adverse side effects reported, no specific longer term safety studies have been carried out on inositol. Because of the way it works, inositol should be avoided by people with liver or kidney disease, and also by expectant or nursing women. It should be avoided by young children until safety tests have been carried out, and it is believed that it can cause manic effects in those suffering bipolar disorder.
Other than for these specific cases, trials with many times the average daily intake of the substance, it currently appears safe to take inositol as a long-term supplement. However, as with all such supplements intended for specific disorders, you should seek the advice of your physician.

It is present at highest levels in the heart and brain, which indicates where it is mostly used, although it also helps the liver to break down fats and enables the nerves and muscles to operate as they should.
Those that are depressed are frequently found to have low inositol levels in their spinal fluid, so it is believed to play a part in that condition. It is known that the substance takes part in the function of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is known to play a part in depression, and initial signs are that its use in the treatment of depression could be effective. Neurotransmitters are responsible for passing messages across the gap (synapses) between nerve cells, their messages being decoded by the neuroreceptors. A healthy nervous system depends on healthy neurotransmitters.
For these reasons, inositol has also been tried on other conditions of the nervous system. These include bipolar disorder, bulimia, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and attention deficit disorder. So far, results have been inconclusive as to its effectiveness, but it is early days yet and field tests are continuing.
A test carried out in Beersheva, Israel, in 1997, found that treatment with inositol produced significant improvement in the depression of 28 patients after four weeks on the Hamilton Depression Scale1, and 21 patients tested with panic disorder (with and without agoraphobia) showed significant improvements in their condition, including agoraphobia. Results on 13 patients with obsessive compulsive disorder also showed significant improvement. These were all double-blind tests.
However, not all tests have been so conclusive, and a study on 42 people with sever depression who did not respond to conventional antidepressant, also failed to respond when inositol was added to their medication.2 Results are therefore not conclusive.
Four hundred people took part in a double-blind test that indicated a possible improvement in the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome when treated with inositol 3,4 and another that inositol treatment on patients taking lithium could help reduce the symptoms of psoriasis, a skin condition believed to be caused by a reaction of the immune system and nerves.5
The supplement has also been found to be just as effective as Luvox (fluvoxamine – similar to Prozac) after four weeks treatment. Although these results are good, they are inconclusive, and more data is need before any indisputable conclusions can be drawn. However, treatment with inositol might be worth considering if conventional treatment for these conditions has been unsuccessful.
The most common natural form of inositol is myo-inositol, an isomer of cyclohehexanehexol, a carbocyclic polyol that form the structural basis for secondary messengers in the cells of eukaryotes.
A secondary messenger system is one whereby a signaling molecule is released in response to a signal from a primary messenger such as a neuroreceptor, which then activates certain intracellular proteins known as effector proteins that exert a response from the cell. An example is cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) that is a secondary messenger that activates protein kinases and allows them to phosphorylated proteins.
Eukaryotes are organisms that contain cells composed of complex components contained within a cellular membrane, and that also contain a nucleus. Examples are fungi, plants and all animals. Examples of non eukaryotes include the bacteria family.
It is frequently recommended that inositol is most effective when taken with an equal amount of choline, although this might be due to the fact that when inositol deficiency is detected, choline is also frequently deficient. Both are vitamin B family like, and both are lipotropic, in that they aid the breakdown of fats in the body. It is not clear whether this is true or not, but taking both would certainly not harm you, and might be of great benefit.
Inositol is not essential, because it can be obtained from beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains, cantaloupe, brewer’s yeast, liver and vegetables. Bacteria in the gut also act on the phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate) contained in citrus fruits to form inositol.
However, be careful if you drink a lot of coffee. It destroys inositol, and if you are taking the supplement medicinally, steer clear of coffee during your period of treatment because it will lose its effect. Excessive coffee drinking can also result in a general depletion of inositol from your diet, and hence a deficiency. In such a case you are advised to take a supplement, preferably along with choline that might also be deficient.
Although there have been no adverse side effects reported, no specific longer term safety studies have been carried out on inositol. Because of the way it works, inositol should be avoided by people with liver or kidney disease, and also by expectant or nursing women. It should be avoided by young children until safety tests have been carried out, and it is believed that it can cause manic effects in those suffering bipolar disorder.
Other than for these specific cases, trials with many times the average daily intake of the substance, it currently appears safe to take inositol as a long-term supplement. However, as with all such supplements intended for specific disorders, you should seek the advice of your physician.

Garden Pests And Diseases – Do You Always Have To Spray?
Most home gardeners are unhappy about using poisons to control pests and disease in the garden. What they should know is that the use of pesticides is largely unnecessary in any caseWith the onset of spring in the Southern hemisphere, and the bursting into life of so many of your garden plants, many unwanted organisms also make an appearance and feed off your favourite flowers, roses and others. The main visitors at this time are aphids and fungi such as powdery mildew. At the first sign of trouble though, do you have to resort to spraying pesticides on the affected plants? Do you want to?
Personally I've never met a home gardener who claims to enjoy using poisons Most are disgusted, rightly, even by the thought. The garden is supposed to enhance the quality of life, not be a battle ground for chemical warfare! Also, the more you use pesticides, the more you drive away wildlife from the garden, which help to keep the pests in check. Birds, lizards, many insects such as ladybirds, hedgehogs, and more, prey on the organisms which damage your ornamentals. So the aim should be to make the garden as bio–friendly as possible.
Are we trying to eliminate the pests? Absolutely not! There is one ecological fact worth bearing in mind. In any given habitat, the prey will always vastly outnumber the predator. You've all seen the nature films - thousands of zebras and half a dozen lionesses trying to catch one. So no zebras means no lions. And that means of course, no pests, no birds. But what happens then? As insects can often produce something like 20 generations in a year, the next generation of pests has less predators to contend with, resulting in a habitat which is actually more friendly to the pests!
This would be a good opportunity to share with you an interesting statistic I heard from an expert at the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture. He pointed out to me that his department offers emergency field visits to farmers complaining of some mysterious pest or disease eating up their crops. 50% of the "pests" turn out to be non biotic in origin, such as fertilizer or pesticide build-up in the soil. Indeed once a former customer phoned me in a panic, telling me that his lawn was being eaten-up by "something" and that the neighbours' gardener had already told them what pesticide to use. When I examined the grass, which was indeed browning–off, I discovered that the automatic irrigation system had been accidentally turned off. This in a country (Israel) where there's no rain between April and October; a classic case of the problem with the lawn, having absolutely nothing to do with the activity of some pathogenic organism.
The main reasons why the home gardener should try to avoid the use of pesticides as much as possible can be summarized as follows:
* Spraying endangers the person who is spraying
* Pesticides, particularly organic phosphates, endanger members of the family using the garden
* Pesticides reduce the populations of wildlife visiting the garden, thereby affecting the balance in the garden in favour of the pests
In the meantime here are some eco - friendly, indeed family – friendly tips for coping with the uninvited guests:
* Spray the aphids which are dining on the leaves and young juicy stems, with the garden hose. You may have to run your fingers up and down the stems, in order to crush them as well. Will this get rid of all the aphids? No. But it can sufficiently reduce the damage caused. You can use the hose on many fungal infections as well.
After this wait for a hot dry period like the Sirocco in Southern Italy or the Hamsin in the Eastern Mediterranean. These kill off the remaining aphids.
* Prune the tips of affected plants. Aphids concentrate on new growth, and are therefore found at the growing tips of plants. This method of aphid control,is excellent on non - flowering plants, but it will reduce the number of flowers of course on roses for example.
* When pruning, always remove the pruned parts from the garden bed. Never leave them on the ground, because they can become a source for other pests such as boring insects. This applies to all prunings, not just to infested parts, good sanitation is an integral part of pest control.
* Time your watering when the humidity is naturally high, such as at daybreak. As fungi thrive on a mixture of warm and moist conditions, the worst possible time to water is often in the early evening.
* As a last but one resort, use non poisonous pesticides such as those based on detergents or plant extracts. These are less affective than poisons, but less nasty as well.
Prevention is always better than cure, and more and more gardeners are realizing that dealing with pests is a matter of general horticultural practice. Believe it or not, how we irrigate, feed and prune, even how the garden is designed, all affect the level of pests and diseases present in the garden, and the degree of damage caused.

When I examined the grass, which was indeed browning–off, I discovered that the automatic irrigation system had been accidentally turned off. * As a last but one resort, use non poisonous pesticides such as those based on detergents or plant extracts. These are less affective than poisons, but less nasty as well.

New Way to Rotomold Foam&Solid PE Parts
A captive plastics processor is willing to license its new technology for rotomolding polyethylene parts with foam and solid layers. The method is said to be simple, inexpensive, fully automatic, and able to foam thin sections, and it does not leave a blemish on the part. No other method of foaming in rotomolding can boast all of these advantages, says the developer of the process, R. Dru Laws, engineering director at Mity Fence Systems, Orem, Utah. Laws developed what he calls "fusible membrane technology" while working on his Master of Science degree at Queens University in Northern Ireland, a major center for rotomolding R&D. Laws was looking for a foaming method that avoided the disadvantages of existing techniques. A popular one is using a "drop box," or insulated funnel attached to the outside of the mold. According to Laws, drop boxes can cost upwards of $6000 and require a source of compressed air to actuate the open/close cylinder. The boxes are usually actuated manually based on time from the start of the molding cycle, so part-to-part consistency is far from guaranteed. Also, because the drop box typically has a large opening, it leaves a blemish on the part.
A more automated method is to introduce the foamable resin at the beginning of the cycle—either in the form of a foamable pellet dispersion that melts more slowly than the powdered resin or using foaming agent inside a sealed plastic bag that melts during the process. Both of these approaches add to raw-materials cost, and pellets can leave blemishes on the part surface, while the bags are usually made of an incompatible material such as temporary fence,portable fence,wire mesh fence that becomes incorporated in the part and could compromise physical properties. Laws also says these two approaches cannot foam thin sections very easily.
Laws' answer was a smaller, simpler alternative to a drop box. It uses a small PTFE container to hold the blowing agent. It is sealed with a plastic film membrane and is mounted over one of the standard PTFE mold vents with the film acting as a "window" covering the vent hole. When the internal mold temperature reaches a certain point, the membrane window softens and shrinks and then pulls away from the edges of the container opening, thereby releasing the blowing agent. (In his trials Laws used an exothermic type, Celogen OT from Chemtura Corp., Middlebury, Conn.).
Laws found that EVA film is a suitable membrane for molding polyethylene parts. He experimented with molding HDPE but says any PE should work with this method. Melt won't stick to the membrane, and because its behavior is temperature dependent, the membrane functions automatically and consistently, Laws says. The release temperature can be tailored by changing the vinyl acetate content and/or thickness of the EVA membrane.
In his experiments, Laws found that blowing-agent powder alone could be added via the fusible membrane—no resin was needed. He found that adequate distribution of the foaming agent was achieved by the mold's rotation.

Blacksmith Forge Information
The forge is the heart of the blacksmith’s shop. It is in the forge that the blacksmith heats metal until it reaches a temperature and becomes malleable enough for him to use his other equipment to shape it.
The traditional blacksmith’s forge has evolved and become more sophisticated over time, but the basic principles remain unchanged. The most common forge is the one fired by coal, charcoal or coke. The forge is a specially designed fire place where the temperature can be controlled so that the metal is heated to the temperature the blacksmith wants, depending on what he plans to do - shaping, annealing or drawing. The there main parts of the forge are:
· The hearth where the burning coke (or other fuel) is contained and over which the metal is placed and heated.
· The Tuyere which is a pipe leading into the hearth through which air is forced. The strength of the fire and the heat it produces will depend on the amount of air being fed to it through the Tuyere tube.
· The bellows are the mechanism by which air is forced through the Tuyere tube into the hearth. While earlier bellows were pumps operated by muscles power, modern forges have high power fans or bowers to force air into the Tuyere
The blacksmith adjusts the mixture of air and fuel in the hearth the produce the exact temperature needed to heat the metal. A traditional blacksmith’s forge will have a flat bottomed hearth with the Tuyere entering it from below. The core of the fire will be a mass of burning coke in the center of the hearth. Around this burning coke will be a wall of hot, but not burning coal. This wall of coal serves two purposes. It provided insulation and contains and focuses the heat of the fire to a limited area, allowing the blacksmith to heat the metal in a precise manner. The hot coal also becomes transformed in coke which can then be used as fuel for the hearth.
The outer wall of the fire is made up of a layer of raw coal, which is often kept damp so as to control the heat of the inner layer of hot coal so that is may slowly “cook” into coke.
The size of the fire and the heat it produces can be changed by either adding or removing fuel from it as well and adjusting the air flow. By changing the shape of the outer layers of coal, the shape of the fire can also be modified to suit the shape of the metal piece being heated.
Many modern blacksmiths use gas forges. These are fueled by either natural gas or propane. The gas is fed into the hearth, which is lined by ceramic refractory materials, and mixed with air and ignited. The pressure at which the gas is being fed into the hearth can be adjusted to vary the temperature. While gas forges are easier to use and require less maintenance and cleaning, the drawback is that, unlike a coal fired forge, the shape of the fire is fixed and cannot be changed to suit the shape and size of the metal being heated.

Spanish Football League - Valencia Leads the League
The Spanish league was full of excitement this past weekend after the Valencia team delivered the biggest surprise by becoming the first team to be positioned at the top of the standings with 13 points and keeping their undefeated streak of five games up to this point in the season.
At the Mestalla Stadium, Valencia defeated Deportivo La Coruna 4-2 in a great game played by Valencia and his scorer David Villa who scored 2 goals and he is leading in scoring points this season with a total of six goals, this is indeed a very promising starting season for Villa.
Last season Valencia finished in the in 10th place with 51 points but they managed to obtain a great accomplishment which was to win the Spanish Cup for the 2007-2008 season. This new season 2008-09 Valencia had a solid start winning the last five games played in the hands of Head Coach Emery.
During this Sunday’s game, Valencia was down in the first 11 minutes of the game, but a good play done by Mata and the Italian defender Emiliano Moretti tied the game at the end of the first half. During the second half a play by Mata and Villa set Valencia with a good advantage. Later on at the 69th minute a goal by Joaquin increased the score 3-1 in favor of the Valencia CF and at the 82nd minute, Villa scored the fourth goal for his team. Although it was not the end of the game, the host player Lafita scored for El Deportivo ending the score at 4-2.
At the end of the game, Valencia’s Head Coach, Unai Emery expressed, “We are getting over the problems from last season and today we showed what we are capable of. It is nice to be top but what we are concerned with is consistency and growing as a team. We don’t know our limits because it is early in the season.”
The president Vicente Soriano also told the media, he was really excited for this season and the expectations on his team during 2008 and 2009. Definitely the team has shown they are capable of becoming the best team of the league but it is still too soon. There are still things Coach Every and his players need to improve in order to become this season’s champions, especially overcome every obstacle they will find along the way before obtaining the title.
The next game will be against Valladolid which is currently in the 11th position of the standings with 6 points. Previously, Valladolid had lost against Malaga 2-1, however, the team hopes to battle for a win against Valencia on Thursday and built up their position in the standings.

Michael Phelps ended all the historical debates on Wednesday when he won two more swimming golds, bringing his Beijing tally to five and his overall haul to eleven.
The 23 year-old from Baltimore has now surpassed the most golds and medals in Olympic history by an individual. Paavo Nurmi, Carl Lewis, gymnast Larissa Larynina and swimmer Mark Spitz all won nine golds during their careers. But there remained the little matter of Raw Ewry, who won ten golds a century ago. However, there have always been two caveats for Olympic statisticians.

In second place, Sara Isakovic won Slovenia’s first ever swimming medal, and Pang Jiaying of China won bronze.
Phelps revealed after the 200m butterfly that he had been swimming virtually blind in the second half of the race. “I couldn’t see anything for the last 100,” he said. “My goggles pretty much filled up with water. It just kept getting worse and worse, and I was having trouble seeing the walls. I wanted to break the record, and go 1.51 or better. But for the circumstances, I guess it’s not too bad.”
The best race of the day was the women’s 200m individual medley, in which Stephanie Rice of Australia came from behind in the final metres to beat defending champion, Kirsty Coventy of Zimbabwe by 14/100ths of a second, in 2.08.45. It was Rice’s second gold of the week, the Aussie having won the 400m in similar fashion on Monday, also beating Coventry into silver medal spot.
Phelps’ second gold came in the 4x200m relay. Having been beaten into third in the opening leg of the 4x100m freestyle two days ago, and contributed to a near defeat by France, Phelps made no mistake today, handing over to colleague, Ryan Lochte two full bodylengths and two and half seconds ahead of Patrick Murphy of Australia. After that, it was a procession up and down the pool, the US squad pulling further and further ahead. The first team to break the seven-minute barrier for the event, they won in 6.58.56 to set another world record.

If Apple can disable third party apps remotely, who’s iPhone is it, anyway?
From the company that brought you “bricking your phone for using it the way you want …,” The Giz is reporting a rumor that Apple has the ability to remotely disable applications that they don’t consider worthy or approved. The ability comes from the fact that Cupertino has written in the OS for the iPhone to “phone home” on occasion and get updated with a “blacklist” of applications that shouldn’t belong on the phone. It then proceeds to disable those applications. Swell. Who’s phone is it again?
The instruction was found by Jonathan Zdziarsi, the author of iPhone Forensics, and he states that it’s Hidden deep in the OS, under “CoreLocation” in a file called https://iphone-services.apple.com/clbl/unauthorizedApps. So far, according to Zdziarsi, the instruction only acts as a sort of anti virus or spyware instruction – disabling malicious applications that are either unauthorized by the phone’s owner (who is that again? Steve Jobs?) and that can do serious damage to the phone or even steal the users identity. That’s the party line anyway. But what would stop Apple from disabling say … MagicPad because it doesn’t like the cut and paste availability, or an app that uses the GPS to provide turn by turn directions in violation of Apple’s EULA (and wouldn’t it be swell if it did it right in the middle of a roadtrip).
And shouldn’t Cupertino have mentioned this in the product literature or even the phone’s manual instead of burying this command deep inside the code? And who pays for the cell phone call everytime iPhone calls home to talk to little Steve?

Considering that many of our mobile electronics have USB ports for charging, it is not always convenient to find a spare USB port, especially when traveling on the road.

New enhancements on the Google content network

Improved Ads Quality: Brings performance improvements within the Google content network.
View-Through Conversions: Enables advertisers to gain insights on how many users visited their sites after seeing an ad. This helps advertisers determine the best places to advertise so users will see more relevant ads.
We are enabling this functionality by implementing a DoubleClick ad-serving cookie across the Google content network. We are enabling this functionality by implementing a DoubleClick ad-serving cookie across the Google content network. Using the DoubleClick cookie means that DoubleClick advertisers and publishers don't have to make any changes on their websites as we continue our integration efforts and offer additional enhancements. This also means that with one click, users can opt out of a single cookie for both DoubleClick ad serving and the Google content network. (If a user has already opted out of the DoubleClick cookie, that opt-out will also automatically apply to the Google content network.)

Al Gore Places Infant Son In Rocket To Escape Dying Planet
EARTH—Former vice president Al Gore—who for the past three decades has unsuccessfully attempted to warn humanity of the coming destruction of our planet, only to be mocked and derided by the very people he has tried to save—launched his infant son into space Monday in the faint hope that his only child would reach the safety of another world.
"I tried to warn them, but the Elders of this planet would not listen," said Gore, who in 2000 was nearly banished to a featureless realm of nonexistence for promoting his unpopular message. "They called me foolish and laughed at my predictions. Yet even now, the Midwest is flooded, the ice caps are melting, and the cities are rocked with tremors, just as I foretold. Fools! Why didn't they heed me before it was too late?"
Al Gore—or, as he is known in his own language, Gore-Al—placed his son, Kal-Al, gently in the one-passenger rocket ship, his brow furrowed by the great weight he carried in preserving the sole survivor of humanity's hubristic folly.
"There is nothing left now but to ensure that my infant son does not meet the same fate as the rest of my doomed race," Gore said. "I will send him to a new planet, where he will, I hope, be raised by simple but kindly country folk and grow up to be a hero and protector to his adopted home."
As the rocket soared through the Gore estate's retractable solar-paneled roof—installed three years ago to save energy and provide emergency rocket-launch capability in the event that Gore's campaign to save Earth was unsuccessful—the onetime presidential candidate and his wife, Tipper, stood arm-in-arm, nobly facing their end while gazing up in stoic dignity at the receding rocket, the ecosystem already beginning to collapse around them.
In the final moments before the Earth's destruction, Gore expressed hope that his son would one day grow up to carry on his mission by fighting for truth, justice, and the American way elsewhere in the universe, using his Earth-given superpowers to become a champion of the downtrodden and a reducer of carbon emissions across the galaxy.
"Perhaps he will succeed where I have failed," Gore said.
Despite the child's humble beginnings, experts predict the intergalactic journey may have some extraordinary effects on Kal-Al's physique, eyesight, and, potentially, his powers of quiet, sensible persuasion.
"On his new planet, Kal-Al's Earth physiology will react to the radiation of a differently colored sun, causing him to develop abilities far beyond those of mortal men," political analyst Sig Schuster said. "He will be faster than a speeding Prius, stronger than the existing Superfund program, and able to leap mountains of red tape in a single bound. These superpowers will sustain him in his never-ending battle against conservatives, wealthy industrialists, and other environmental supervillains."
Although Gore and his wife voiced regrets that they could not accompany their son on his journey, they tried their best to equip Kal-Al for life on his new planet, providing the infant with a Keynote slide-show presentation of all human knowledge, a self-growing crystal fortress from which to monitor glacier shrinkage, and a copy of Al Gore's 1992 bestseller, Earth In The Balance.
The baby was also wrapped in a blanket emblazoned with the Gore family crest, which, because it is made of Earth materials, will be invulnerable on the new planet. It is hoped that one day it will be fashioned into a colorful costume for the boy to wear while fighting wrongdoers.
"In brightly hued tights, it will be harder for people there to ignore him when he takes on his new planet's lobbyists, auto manufacturers, and enemies of justice," Schuster said. "A bold and eye-catching unitard will give Kal-Al, last son of Earth, a formidable tool for protecting his new planet, a power more awesome than any his father could have dreamed of: the power of charisma."
