When you introduce yourself to people what exactly do you tell them that you do? Do you have a specific job title that you like, something that says a lot about your position, or do you have a generic job title that does not really tell a person anything?
Job titles can do a lot to improve a business card if you use them correctly. A vague job title is not going to do anything to improve your color business cards, and might end up making a person think you do not do anything important, which is why your title is so vague.
The same can be said for not having a job title at all. If you have this spot oddly blank on your business cards people may start to wonder why. If you list your name and company name but nothing about what exactly it is that you do people cannot help but question if there is some specific reason behind this, and whether or not it reflects poorly on you.
The best kind of job titles are the ones that are self explaining so a person can easily tell exactly what you do from the title alone. However, some titles just naturally do not convey this and there is not much you can really do about it. This is especially true if you do a lot of different jobs at your company, which might make it difficult to give you a single title to put down.
In circumstances like this you might try adding in a description of what it is that you do so people are going to know right from the beginning.
But why bother with this at all? Is it really so important to know exactly what you do for a company? Your job duties might be important when applying to a new job, but do you really need all of this detail on your color business cards?
I will admit that this depends on the type of industry you are in. If you know you are going to be at an event where everyone already has a good feel for what everyone else does than no, a job description or even job title might just look out of place on your business card.
But a lot of the time you are going to be dealing with people who do not know anything about you or your company. If they need a specific service from your company they will want to know who they should get into contact with. Your job title can do a lot to help them out, because they will know whether you specifically can help them, which will encourage them to get into contact with you.
In the end it will be up to you to decide what will work best for your business card. But no matter what you decide at least consider all the possibilities, and be certain whether or not adding a job title will be the best thing for your business card.
